OPALESCE meeting in Paderborn

The OPALESCE Meeting in Paderborn, Germany was really successful. The partners discussed on the concrete design of the Learning Units. Therefore, we reflected the way how to create films, texts, tasks and assessments. The first impressions of the Learning Units are already finished and the are already amazing. Now, the partners have to create the tool and the elements of the learning units in a more specific way. The meeting was an important step of the project and all partners are very happy with the results.

OPALESCE is becoming bigger

In the last week we had several discussions on OPALESCE and the structure of learning units.
Every time the teacher, educators, students and researchers were really impressed about the project and the results on the structure of learning units. Moreover, a teacher from a German school in Cologne pointed out that the idea of creating a tool for senior also offers the possibility to use this tool as well for younger learners. For teacher it would be a great opportunity to use a tool like this, due to the fact that usually a teacher or trainer has not enough time to create things like this without such a tool support. “OPALESCE in teaching and learning situations at schools helps to enhance quality in teaching and supports teachers”, said Prof. Dr. Marc Beutner in this context.

Great feedback on the learning structure of OPALESCE

Prof. Dr. Marc Beutner presented the learning structure of OPALESCE to scientist and learners at a meeting in Cologne at the end of November 2015. The feedback was really great and positive.

“It is important to create a clear structure for micro units and learning nuggets. This helps the learners and provides them with orientation in their learning process.” explained Prof. Dr. Marc Beutner.

Third meeting in Germany, Paderborn

Dear interested readers,

on the 14th and 15th of December the OPALESCE-partners will meet at the University Paderborn to discuss about the projects’ progress and the steps laying ahead of us.

This meeting is highly important for the overall project as the theoretical/ conceptual phase is behind us now, and therefore we have a practical oriented meeting on which we are going to discuss first mock-ups and prototypes.

We are looking forward to test the first prototypes soon and to see how the target group members respond to what we have created – but the evaluation results we gathered until now are promising.

Structure of micro units in OPALESCE

In OPALESCE the Micro Units can be designed and used separetly to foster the idea of short learning nuggets. Moreover, it is possible to design a setting of several micro learning units which can be combined to get a better overview about the topic and a deeper knowledge.

Therefore, core learning units can be combined and sequenced. In this case they are framed by a starting unit with a general introduction and a closure unit:

Second partnermeeting in Greece, Athens

Dear OPALESCE followers,

The projects runs and progresses well and a lot of conceptualization and also evaluation work has been done at this comparatively early stage of the three-year project.

Today, we wanted to inform you that the consortium agreed to have the next partnermeeting and workshop in Athens at our partners from Demokritos. The meeting will take place from the 15th – 17th July 2015.

The meeting will be a milestone in regard to the completion of the so called Learning Concept Design and the Interactive Task Systems. Both are comprised in one document that encompasses several aspects of didactical criteria, pedagogics, andragogy and the design criteria and concepts of the learning resources (Micro Units) that will be made available through the distance learning system. Furthermore, we have outlined a concept of how the learners can interact with the system primarily based on different assessment formats. This document will be the very basis for the Handbook that addresses resource creators and should help them to create sound and qualitative resources. The meeting in Athes will be the initial point for the development of this handbook.

Till then, the Learning Concept Design and the Interactive Task System have been evaluated within the project consortium in two different cycles and with adult learners respectively senior citizens as well.

We will keep you up to date and inform you about the projects progress.

OPALESCE – A great start in an interesting European project

Dear partners of the OPALESCE project,

dear interested readers,

today, we are able to introduce the project OPALESCE – Online Portal and Active Learning System for Senior Citizens in Europe.

The project started on th 01.09.2014 and is co-financed by the ERASMUS+ programme of the EU. Actually we are in the conception phase at the beginning of the project.

I would like to welcome you and send you the best wishes of our coordinator RUTIS form Portugal, my collegue Rasmus Pechuel form Ingenious Knowledge and me, Marc Beutner, chair of Business and Human Resourses Education, the ones who are responsible for the concept and the design of this ERASMUS+ project.
